Stephens Co, GA – Toddler Girl Drowns in Lake Hartwell at Ridgemore Cir

Stephens Co, GA (September 19, 2021) – A deadly drowning incident involving one victim was reported on Sunday afternoon, September 19, in the Stephens County area.  

A 19-month-old toddler died after drowning in Lake Hartwell, per authorities with the Stephens County Coroner’s Office.

According to a release from Coroner Christ Stephens, their office was contacted about the drowning, which occurred near Ridgemore Circle, around 1:30 p.m. Several agencies from both Stephens County and Oconee County responded to the incident.

Stephens said the body of the child was recovered around 3:30 p.m. The victim was identified as a 19-month-old girl, and an autopsy will be performed at the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office in Atlanta.

It’s unclear if the girl’s parents or guardians were with her when the drowning occurred. No further details have been released but the investigation is ongoing. Deputies with the Stephens County Sheriff’s Office say they will provide more information in the coming days.
