Monroe, GA (May 7, 2023) – A motorcyclist was killed in a fatal motorcycle accident that happened on a major roadway in Monroe on Saturday afternoon, May 6.
According to Walton County Police and Georgia State Patrol officials, the accident happened around 3 p.m. on GA-11 around the area of Mountain Creek Church Road. Police confirmed that a motorcyclist was traveling south on the highway on a green motorcycle while approaching a private driveway. At that time, a driver in a Black Buick Lacrosse attempted to make a left turn out of the driveway, striking the motorcyclist. Their motorcycle ran into the driver’s side door of the vehicle, leading to severe damages.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders in Monroe were dispatched to the scene. The motorcyclist, who has not yet been formally identified, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries. Nobody else received injuries as a result of the collision.
Due to the severity of the accident, the roadway was blocked in all but one lane for several hours. Police quickly worked to clear the scene so traffic could return to normal.
The investigation into the circumstances of the collision continues. Police will update with new information as it becomes available.
We would like to offer our warmest condolences to the family and friends of the victim whose life was taken in this accident.
