Macon, GA – Car Knocks Over Traffic Pole After Brakes Fail

Macon, Ga (April 19, 2023) – A section of Mercer University Drive near Bloomfield Road is currently closed after a vehicle collided with a traffic pole and overturned, as reported by the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

At approximately 10:30 a.m., the driver of a 2011 Nissan Altima lost control of the vehicle on Mercer University Drive due to brake failure. The car subsequently struck a guide wire close to Macon Mall, causing it to flip over. Additionally, the vehicle hit a traffic pole housing the traffic control box, leaving wires dangling in the area.

As a result, Mercer University Drive has been closed near Bloomfield Road, with traffic being rerouted through the Macon Mall parking lot between Mercer University Drive and Bloomfield Road. While repairs are expected to take some time, there is currently no estimated time for completion.

The driver involved in the accident was unharmed and did not receive any citations.
