Demorest, GA (September 28, 2021) – On Sunday afternoon, September 26, a workplace accident sent two workers to the hospital in Demorest.
According to Habersham County officials, the accident happened at the Demorest Asphalt Plant on 1090 Double Springs Road. Two workers, who have not yet been identified, were working with a pipe or another related device and cleaning it when they were severely burned. The exact circumstances are not yet known.
Paramedics and numerous other responders were called to the scene. The two workers were severely burned as a result of the accident. They were airlifted to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries, though their conditions are not yet known.
The area was blocked for a period of time as the scene was cleared. OSHA will be coming to look at the conditions of the workplace.
No further details have been released but the investigation continues.
