Covington, GA – Worker Killed in Access Rd Bridge Collapse

Covington, GA (October 20, 2021) – On Tuesday evening, October 18, a worker was killed and others were injured in a Covington bridge collapse.

According to the Georgia Department of Transportation, the accident happened on the Access Road bridge around I-20 over the Yellow River. While workers were working to demolish the area, a portion of the bridge collapsed into the river. A 500-ton crane had to remove a truck and excavator that went into the river.

Paramedics and numerous other responders were called to the scene to help those in need. One worker, who has not yet been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries. Two workers were seriously injured and rushed to local hospitals for treatment.

Due to the severity of the accident, the area was blocked until police were able to fully clear the scene.

The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues.
