Athens, GA – Hit-and-Run Bicycle Crash at Lumpkin St & Cedar St
Athens, GA (September 23, 2021) – At 11:54 p.m. on the night of Wednesday, September 22, a hit-and-run bicycle crash occurred in Athens.
According to the University of Georgia Police Department, the accident happened at the intersection of Lumpkin Street and Cedar Street. A male student was riding his bicycle in the area when he was suddenly struck by a passenger vehicle. The driver of the passenger vehicle fled the scene without stopping.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were immediately dispatched to the scene of the crash. The bicyclist, who has not yet been formally identified, was injured in the crash. He was taken to the hospital for treatment of the injuries.
The roadway was blocked in the area of the intersection until police were able to fully clear the scene. Police have not yet been able to find the driver responsible for the accident.
No further details have been released. The investigation into the accident remains ongoing at this time.
