Athens, GA – Fatal Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accident on Broad St
Athens, GA (October 10, 2021) – Around midnight on Saturday, October 9, a fatal hit-and-run pedestrian accident occurred in Athens.
According to Athens-Clarke County Police, the accident happened on Broad Street around the area of Foundry Street. A 20-year-old woman was walking with a friend when she started to cross the street. At that time, a Honda Accord traveling west struck her. The driver immediately fled the scene.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other responders were called to the scene to help those in need. The pedestrian was seriously injured and rushed to a local hospital. She was pronounced dead while there.
Police have since located the vehicle involved in the accident but they have not released a description of the driver who struck the pedestrian.
The roadway was blocked in the area for some time as police worked to clear the scene.
No further details have been released but the investigation remains ongoing.
